We are about to begin week #3 of Redmond Cross Country season 2010. While the athletes are becoming more accustomed to the workout load, they are still feeling those every day aches and pains from hills, intervals and distance training. For approx. $30.00, they could give themselves a daily massage using a simple cylindrical foam roller.
When I added foam roller exercises to my workout regime last year, the benefits were immediate. The roller stretches, increases blood flow and breaks up trigger points in my hamstrings, quads, IT band, shoulders and neck. For most of our athletes, many of their common aches and pains can be alleviated with foam roller usage after practice.
